Why does the Health Department inspect restaurants?

The Department of Health inspects New York City’s approximately 27,000 restaurants for compliance with food safety standards. Inspectors look at how food is prepared, served and stored and whether restaurant workers practice good hygiene. They check food temperatures, equipment maintenance, and pest control measures.

Food safety requires active management, and we help you monitor your sanitary practices daily and correct any violations you may have.

we help you obtain good results in inspections.

  • Restaurants Graded?

Violations found during inspections carry point values, and a restaurant’s score corresponds to a letter grade. The point/grade cut-offs are the same as for mobile food vending letter grading, with fewer points corresponding to a better grade.
We identify which category your business is in to advise you with a specialized plan tailored to you.
