• How to Identify an German Cockroach

• Appearance

   German cockroaches are small, fast-moving, and have the following characteristics:

• Color: Adults are light brown or tan, while nymphs are darker brown or black 
• Stripes: Adults have two black stripes that run parallel from the back of their head to their wings 
• Size: Adults are about 13–16 mm long, while nymphs are smaller 
• Shape: They have long, wide, flat bodies, six legs, and two long antennae 

Habitat

• German cockroaches are commonly found in food preparation areas and warm, damp places such as sewers and basements, particularly around pipes and drains. They are very aggressive, making roach control difficult, and are more likely to be seen in daytime and outdoors than other species. They are most active when the temperature is 70 degrees or higher, although they can survive lower temperatures.
