Trusted extermination services to keep your home, business, and customers pest-free
German cockroach resistance in NYC is real: decades of repeated insecticide use have produced strains that survive single-chemistry products, plus bait aversion to common gels. NYE counters it by layering independent modes of action — non-repellent residuals, insect growth regulators that target development, and rotated baits — so a roach surviving one is reached by another. Callback rate under 1%, most jobs resolved in a single visit.
German cockroaches reproduce fast — a single female can lead to thousands of descendants in a year — and that rapid turnover lets populations evolve quickly. In NYC, decades of repeated exposure to the same classes of insecticide have produced strains that survive products which used to work. Some populations now show cross-resistance (surviving chemicals they’ve never even encountered) and even bait aversion, where roaches avoid the sugars used in common gels.
If a low-cost operator or a store-bought product relies on a single mode of action, a resistant population simply absorbs the hit and rebounds. Rotating brands at the hardware store doesn’t help when those products share the same active chemistry. This is the most common reason NYC apartments cycle through exterminator after exterminator without lasting relief.
NYE’s protocol layers multiple, independent modes of action so a roach surviving one is reached by another: non-repellent residual chemistry, insect growth regulators (IGRs) that work on the roach’s development rather than its nervous system, and rotated bait matrices to counter bait aversion. Where chemistry alone faces resistance, mechanical and growth-regulating tools carry the load. We also diagnose in the field — deformed or under-developed roaches are a sign the IGR is working.
Most resolved in a single visit
Because the non-repellents don’t spook the roaches, they keep moving through treated zones and carry it back to the colony — our callback rate is under 1%.
Expert note — Jorge Bedoya, ACE
Resistance is why I never rely on one product. If a population shrugs off a nerve-agent residual, an insect growth regulator still stops the nymphs from maturing, and a rotated bait beats the aversion to the old sugar matrices. Layering modes of action is how you stay ahead of an insect that evolves as fast as a German cockroach.

Many populations are. Repeated use of the same chemical classes has selected for strains that survive them, and some show aversion to common bait sugars. Layered, rotated treatment is the reliable answer.
We monitor and read field signs. Insect growth regulators produce deformed, non-reproducing roaches (adultoids), which is direct evidence the population’s reproduction is being shut down.
Family-owned, NYSDEC-licensed, and ACE-led — our German cockroach work carries a callback rate under 1%, with the vast majority of jobs resolved in a single visit.
