Cockroach Control in NYC

Trusted extermination services to keep your home, business, and customers pest-free

An infestation of many reddish-brown cockroaches is visible on a cracked concrete floor in a dark, dusty environment, possibly a basement or storage area. They are clustered around a piece of discarded food and dust is visible in a ray of light. In the background, a rusty pipe curves above two stacked cardboard boxes.

Quick answer: Pest control in NYC schools is governed by New York law: campuses must use Integrated Pest Management (IPM), give 48-hour written notice before most pesticide applications, and may not apply pesticides on playgrounds and turf under the Child Safe Playing Fields Act. New York Exterminating runs an ACE-led, low-exposure school IPM program built around exactly these rules — prevention and exclusion first, targeted treatment only when needed, fully documented.

Why schools need a specialized program

Children are more sensitive to pesticide exposure, and a school kitchen, cafeteria, locker room, or boiler room is a high-pressure pest environment. The answer is not more spraying — it is Integrated Pest Management: find and fix the conditions (food, moisture, entry points), monitor, and treat with the lowest-risk effective method, precisely placed. This is the approach the EPA recommends for schools, and it is how we work on every campus.

The New York rules that govern pest control in schools

  • 48-hour notification (NY Education Law §409-H). Schools must maintain a notification list and give written notice before most pesticide applications. Read the statute. We provide the documentation that makes compliance simple.
  • Child Safe Playing Fields Act (Environmental Conservation Law §33-1004). Pesticides are prohibited on school and day-care grounds, turf, and playgrounds, with narrow emergency exceptions. Read the law. Our grounds approach is exclusion- and habitat-based, not spray-based.
  • IPM expectation. New York directs schools toward IPM and minimal-risk practices — the core of our program.

Our school IPM program

  • Inspection & monitoring across kitchens, cafeterias, classrooms, locker rooms, custodial and boiler areas, and grounds.
  • Exclusion first — sealing the structural gaps that let mice and roaches in, which is the durable fix and keeps treatment to a minimum.
  • Targeted, low-exposure treatment placed into harborage (including our non-conductive microinjection for cafeteria kitchen equipment), never broadcast across student areas.
  • Off-hours scheduling — service during breaks, evenings, or holidays so learning is never disrupted.
  • Compliance documentation — service reports, labels, monitoring data, and notification support, ready for administrators and inspectors.

Pests we handle on campus

Mice and rats (see rodent control & exclusion), German cockroaches in cafeteria kitchens (see German cockroach service), ants, flies, and stinging insects (wasps/bees) on grounds. For multi-building campuses and mixed portfolios we coordinate with our commercial and property-management programs.

School pest control FAQ

Is your treatment safe for children?

Yes — our program is built around low-exposure IPM: prevention, exclusion, and targeted placement into harborage rather than spraying student areas, fully compliant with NY school pesticide law.

Do you handle the 48-hour notification paperwork?

We provide the service records and product information schools need to meet Education Law §409-H notification requirements; the school maintains its notification list and sends notices.

Can you service without disrupting classes?

Yes. We schedule around your calendar — evenings, weekends, and school breaks.

Can you treat the playground or athletic fields?

Pesticides are restricted on school grounds under the Child Safe Playing Fields Act, so we use exclusion and habitat management there and reserve any product use for permitted indoor or emergency situations.

A safer, compliant campus — let’s build the program.
