Clothes Moth Treatment in Westport, Weston, Southport, Wilton and Fairfield, Connecticut
Compo on the water, Weston on the ridge. Two moth problems, one program.
Westport, Weston, Southport, Wilton and Fairfield wardrobes are assessed by an Associate Certified Entomologist and processed on site with heat, freezing, steam and HEPA vacuuming. Nothing leaves the property. Programs from $3,000, about eighty minutes from our Brooklyn office.
Westport to Wilton: beach houses, ridge houses and the barn in between
Westport (06880) carries a 2025 median sale price of $1.97 million and the highest profile of any town east of Greenwich; Weston (06883) at $1.37 million, Southport (06890) at $1.38 million, Wilton (06897) at $1.28 million and Fairfield (06824) at $1.22 million fill out the most concentrated stretch of large houses on the Connecticut shore. Compo, Greens Farms, Saugatuck Shores and Southport harbor are the water houses: a beach club locker, a boathouse, a sunroom closet and a mudroom that stays damp from the first northeaster to Memorial Day. Damp, undisturbed wool is what a webbing clothes moth larva needs, and a shore house provides it for seven months.
Weston, Wilton, Easton and the Redding line are the ridge houses: two-acre zoning, 1790s farmhouses extended three times, a barn turned into a studio or a guest house, a tack room, and an attic under a gambrel roof where every winter coat, wool blanket and camp trunk goes in April. Tudor-era cedar closets and twentieth-century cedar rooms are common in both, and neither does what owners believe: cedar oil fades from the surface within a year or two, deters some adults, and does nothing to the larva already inside a folded sweater.
A third of Westport’s wardrobe is in Manhattan from Monday to Thursday, and the duffel is the vector. When the assessment finds activity we treat the city residence under the same report within two weeks, and in New York the whole program, including any structural work, is performed by New York Exterminating under its own license. Arts and design households are overrepresented here, which means archive couture, costume collections and textile art in the house; those pieces are documented and routed to a conservator, never processed on a guess.
Nothing leaves your home.
Assessment, processing, monitoring and a report, in one visit.
The full program is described hour by hour on the Private Client page, and the way it runs in Connecticut on the Fairfield County page. Here it runs like this.
Private assessment, $750
Jorge Bedoya, ACE, inspects every closet, storage room, barn and rug and photographs each garment as clear, at risk or infested, rated against our Fabric and Brand Care Index. You receive the inventory and a fixed program price. The fee is credited to a program booked within 30 days.
Processed on site
Heat-safe garments go through our chamber in your home with a probe in the core of the load. Cashmere, silk and anything delicate is frozen in our portable freezers. Closets are emptied, steamed and HEPA-vacuumed; rugs are done on both sides. Everything goes back in its photographed order.
Report and monitoring
You receive the Private Client Report with findings, inventory, probe and freezer logs, and the Connecticut partner’s documentation where a product was applied to the structure. Monitors are read at 30, 60 and 90 days; those visits verify, they do not re-treat.

Seventy-five to eighty-five minutes from Midwood via I-95 to exits 17 to 21, or the Merritt to exits 41 and 42 for Weston and Wilton. Shore houses are one-day programs; ridge houses with a barn, guest house and full attic are usually the two-day Plus program. Booked Tuesday to Thursday.
What we expect to rate most often between Westport and Wilton:
| Garment | Why moths want it | Rating | How we handle it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beach-house wool: throws, sweaters, blankets in the sunroom | Damp, rarely used rooms, seven months closed | Heat, probed | Chamber load; sunroom and pool-house closets steamed and vacuumed. |
| Cashmere and camel coats that ride Metro-North | Worn daily, hung in two closets | Freeze | Frozen on site; the city closet is checked under the same report. |
| Barn and tack-room wool, camp trunks in the gambrel attic | Stored in April, opened in November | Heat, probed | Chamber with a core probe; attic and barn walked as sources. |
| Archive couture, costume and textile art | Aged silk and wool, degrading interfacings, beads and glues | Specialist | Documented and bagged; routed to a conservator we work with. Never heated or frozen on a guess. |
| Hand-knotted rugs in the 1790s rooms | Wool pile on wide-plank floors, under furniture that never moves | Case by case | Both sides inspected; steamed and vacuumed in place, or frozen by size. Antique and silk rugs to your restorer. |

“I do the assessment myself because the assessment is the job. Anyone can run a heat chamber. Knowing which jacket has horsehair canvas inside it, which coat will delaminate at 120 degrees and which rug is the actual source is what you are paying for. If I would not put a garment of my own through a step, it does not go through that step.”

Clothes moths in Westport & Weston: FAQ
Is a shore house or a ridge house more at risk?
Both, differently. Shore houses are damp and feed larvae in the closets nobody opens until June; ridge houses are dry but store more wool for longer, in barns and gambrel attics. The assessment is written for the house you have, and the Plus program exists for the house that is both.
Is New York Exterminating licensed in Connecticut?
Our pesticide business registration and applicator certification are in New York State. Here we perform the assessment, on-site heat, freezing, steam and HEPA processing, monitoring and the report, none of which is a pesticide application. If the structure needs a product applied, a Connecticut-registered company performs it under its own registration, scheduled by us and documented in your report. See our Fairfield County page.
Do you cover Easton, Redding and Ridgefield?
Yes, under this page. They are the same ridge houses a few minutes further north, and the same one-day or Plus program applies.
Can you treat our Manhattan apartment at the same time?
Yes, under the same program and report, within the same two weeks.
What if a piece is beyond what you can process on site?
It goes to the right specialist, and we make the call: a furrier’s cold vault for furs and shearling, a textile conservator for couture, costume and needlepoint, a rug restorer for antique and silk rugs. Each hand-off is recorded in the report.
